The story i am working on. I trust you all here, so please do not take any of this. If you do, i will be very very disappointed and saddened.
It’s always like this… I am always at my own table all alone, but it doesn’t really bother me, because even though everyone thinks I am alone. I really am not. The bird sitting on the other side of the glass window eyed me with curiosity and I smiled.
“Good morning Blue Bird.” I sent my thoughts outwards to the creature and it sang musically to everyone but I heard it’s voice, chiming like that of wind chimes in a gentle breeze.
“Good morning!” The creature sang.
Smiling I turned back to my work at hand, an English essay. I was to write a story. But it had to be on equality.
My pen moved across the paper with ease as I watched the words spring to life.
There is no such thing as difference, there is no such thing as being unique, for when unique happens, one is an outcast, shunned by the rest of humans. There is no point in trying to help others, you become evil things like a witch but even now the worst witch is a witch of Satan. Were as the best is but a simple healer with herbs and a few good chants.
But there is nothing worse than being an outcast in your own family. They keep you in their home but they never really let you close. They never talk to you, they won’t share things with you. If something bad happens they silently curse you. And in the end it’s all your fault. And you take their ridicule with no heart because by a certain age, you have learnt, there is no point in being affected by it because of the simple fact, it’s not true and if it was. Then you could destroy everything in your anger or sorrow. And if you did that they might actually kill you in your sleep.
It’s never easy being different and for those who are, I hope you hide it well. Because you should be able to live a normal happy life.
As for equality. There is no such thing. Men always force themselves into the harder work and when women do it, they become laughing stocks, and yet when women prove their worth, they are laughed at. Or taken as a joke and ignored. There is no such thing as equality and there never will be.
“Pens down.” The teacher called and instinctively I dropped my pen.
“Please bring your papers forward. Single file, and go to your next class.” The teacher spoke just as the bell rang.
I looked down at my paper, my name staring back at me. Selkie.
